Struggling to booking Passport appointment ? India Passport Services - Online payment to be made mandatory soon

Want to apply for an Indian passport but fed up with the passport appointment booking system? Are you not getting an appointment to apply for a passport even after trying for several days?

Why are so many passport appointment booking slots ( ex: 650 plus slot in Pune PSK) disappearing in a matter of 30-60 seconds?

Are there so many genuine passport applications daily? Do all of these applicants turn up to the respective PSK as per the slot?

According to Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi, Joint Secretary Passport Seva Project and Chief Passport Officer "Around 25-30 per cent of the applicants who get an
slot do not turn up at the respective offices"

If that is the case, why should genuine
applicants desperate to apply for Indian passport, or in urgent need of renewal struggle to get an slot to visit PSK.

"To prevent fictitious identity details, government will make payment
mandatory and obligatory (in some cases) as 25-30 per cent of applicants don't turn up at PSK after obtaining appointment"

To bring some relief to applicants, the government is in the process of introducing online payment gateway to prevent malpractices in
Booking Passport appointments for passport services.

That's indeed a greats news isn't it !

Firstly this will keep fake or non serious passport applicants away from blocking the precious slot.

Secondly there will be no hassle to carry fees in cash ! Also saves all the worries of counterfeit notes.

The proposal aimed at doing away with any malpractice is likely to take effect by March 2013 and the payment could be made through different channels, including debit and credit cards.

The government has ensured transparency by making passport application go online, which among others has done away with touts.

Tata Consultancy Services, which was recently roped in for its software expertise will be in  partnership till 2018 before further extension for two years with mutual consent.

Ravi Viswanathan, Head of operations, TCS Chennai, said enough security measures are in place for online application of passports to prevent malpractices and this included keeping a tab on IP address from where a particular submission would be made.
